FAITH
Daily Mass, weekly Benediction, and monthly Confession are at the foundation for the faith and devotional life of our students. In addition, Providence Academy offers these opportunities for students interested in deepening their faith and devotional life.
ALTAR SERVING
GRADES 3-12 | BOYS
The sacred liturgy of the Church is integral to our school’s life and necessary for our mission, and therefore we take the liturgical formation of our students very seriously. Through the students’ participation in the worship of the Church, their thoughts, affections, memories, and imagination are permanently shaped by the sacred liturgy and the liturgical calendar. Moreover, the grace of the sacraments is necessary in order for our students to become the young men and women of virtue and holiness that we are assisting parents in forming them to be.
Boys and young men, grades 3-12 serve at the altar at daily Mass in rotating shifts throughout the year. Students are trained to serve at Mass with great reverence and care. Training and daily serving is overseen by a senior head-MC.
Through the reverent model of serving that students are trained in, they are taught to render to the Blessed Sacrament adoration, to the priest reverence, and to the rites of the Church respect. Our hope is that, through the experience of serving daily Mass at Providence Academy, students would be formed in the virtue of religion and future vocations fostered.
CHRIST’S COMPANIONS
GRADES K-12
The pursuit of virtue is an integral part of life at Providence Academy and is a fundamental goal of classical education—Christ’s Companions places virtue center stage. Students from K-12th grade are organized into “houses” that meet once a month. Aided by student facilitators, older students, also known as prefects, are given the opportunity to foster leadership as they organize and lead monthly meetings. Each month is devoted to a particular virtue. Students and teachers are encouraged to acknowledge the practice of virtue daily with the aid of special “Victory for Virtue” cards that are collected in the office and tallied throughout the year. The team with the greatest number of cards at the year’s end is given special acknowledgment. The Virtue of the Year (Cardinal or Theological) provides further support and context for the virtue chosen for each month. A Saint of the Year is also invoked and acknowledged as a special intercessor.
