Lower School History

Our lower school history program is 2nd-6th grade and includes Wisconsin History, Ancient History, Medieval History, and American History. Students begin in 2nd grade with a focus on a history most familiar to them, their own home, Wisconsin. It is a narrative based history, allowing students to enter into the world of historical imagination by reading about important people that make up Wisconsin History. In addition, they learn what a timeline is by plotting out major events that happened in Wisconsin. From grades 3-5, students cover Ancient, Medieval, and American History. In each course, they learn a “history sound off” where students commit to memory and perform the major dates in each history class, complete with actions! By the end of the year, students can successfully recite the entirety of the sound off and will have basic knowledge of the major people and events that make up that specific history. This lays a great foundation to further dive into the complexities of history in the upper school.
